The Majority of Rome last April 2007 announced that this year Trevi Fountain will begin its make up. We are all glad to hear these great news, because the most important fountain in the world is visited every day by around 8.000 people. The square in front of Trevi is really small and thousands of people every day toss the coins to pray for their return to Rome.
It's a good question, isn't it? Well, if you are really curious to know how much the local government of Rome collects every day from the fountain, it really is approximately 1.000 dollars every day: this money are used for charitable activity like to help the homeless.
The Trevi is also devastated every day by unlegal street vendors who are disturbing the visual experience of customerscustomers have when they admire this masterpiece of the neoclassical art. The fountain was wanted by the Pope Clement 12th Corsini, who is buried in san John in Lateran Cathedral and was completed by the pope Benedict XV: the architect superintendentt was Nicola Salvi. The Fountain is a work whci summarize architecture, sculpture and design and is a work of restoration of the roman acqueduct built by Agrippa, son in law of Augustus in the first centurt BC ( Aqua Virgo ). The springs of this water come from the east environs of Rome, near Tivoli.
Well, How people will get to trevi if there are people working there? There are two ways:
1- you can arrive there if your minibus leaves you under the Quirinal palace
2- you can leave your van in via del Tritone or in Piazza dell' Accademia di san Luca because it will be no more allowed to arrive there stopping close to the church of santa Maria in Trivio.
Soon this famous monument of Rome will have its dignity and its visitors will taste not only the architectural shapes of the travertine marble but will hear only the noise of the water cascading and beating on the wild marble rocks and no more the cars and the scoters running around.
