NEW ARCHAEOLOGICAL FINDINGS IN THE METRO OF ROME

The city of Rome has 2 lines of metro: the A line that crosses the city from the north to the south and can take you to the Vatican or close to the Appian Way which is located in the south of Rome, and the B line. The latter was built during the second world war by Mussolini, prime minister at that time and it crosses Rome from east to west.

Actually the Majority of Rome is envloved in a big project of building the new C metro line which will reach some populated districts of Rome located in the south east. Before starting a new metro, the technicians must test the composition of the soil and actually they are analyzing the geological composition of Rome in the areas of the ancient Rome, where Venice Square and the Colosseum are located.

Some other diggs envloved the area close to the main station Termini which was considered outside of the perimeter of the city walls built in the republican age, whose some remains are actually outside of the main station of Rome.

Where is the deal here

We will see soon the roman artworks exhibited in the new metro station so that the people will not only understand where the objects come from but also will contestualize the works, that is to say the visitors and the people who live already in Rome will know what there was in that place long time ago.

It's good to remember that in ancient Rome the dead were buried outside the city walls, we shouldn't be surprised to know that many skulls and skeletons were discovered in the 1960 when termini station was built. But in the area of the Aquarium, the archaeologists discovered several months ago some floor mosaics which can belong to a rich senator house. These important fragments will be preserved soon ad exhibited to the public in the Capitol Museum or in the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme Museum which already houses the most important frescoes and mosaics of the roman art.
