AFTER TWO YEARS THE HOUSE OF NERO OPENS AGAIN TO THE VISITORS |
Finally from the month of February 2007 we will enter again to admire the golden House of Nero, the Domus aurea.
This astonishing archaeological complex is located in front of the Colosseum and is normally opened every day from 9.00am to 5.00 pm, but you need a reservation in advance because the archaeologists of Rome allow only a small group of 20 people to enter inside this giant residence.
As we know from the history of Rome, Nero has been accused to have burned down Rome in the 64 AD and to have blamed the Christians for this fire that lasted one week and destroyed the 80% of the entire city.
It took almost other 15 years to rebuild Rome under his successors, the Flavian familiy ( Vespasian, Titus and Domitian), who started to cancel the memory of the golden house, drying the lake of the Domus Aurea to build up the Colosseum.
As all of us know the Colosseum was built in 10 years between the years 70 to 80 AD. Nero committed suicide at the age of 31 years old because he could not stand to be assassinated by a conspiracy of the roman senators and after his death the golden house was filled in with brickwalls and has been transformed into a big underground warehouse to allow the pipes of a new thermal bath complex to work properly.
