THE BRONZED HORSE STATUE EXHIBITED IN THE CAPITOL MUSEUM |
From May to September 2007 the collection of the capitol Museum will guest a prestigious bronzed work coming from antiquity: a bronzed horse.The work was discovered in 1849 in Trastevere district and it's one of the rare examples of bronzed statues we have.
The statue represents the moment before starting to ride, when the horse put its weight on the back legs and is ready to extend the front legs. The horse eyes were made with glass and it's a work similar to the horses represented in the Parthenon in Athens, but somebody else says that this artowrk can belong to the Lysippos' workshop who lived in the IV century BC. Pliny wrote that a group of Dioscurs carved by Hegias were placed in the Capitol hill and maybe this horse belongs to this equestrian monument.
